Farewell RFK

Baseball is forever gone from RFK Stadium. Hooray. I'm not one who has fond memories of seeing the Senators play there like Christoph does, although I have been to a few raucous and memorable Redskins games at RFK. However, there is no love lost between me and this broken down dark stadium. Last year when we showed up for one of our regular games one of our seats was gone. We informed an usher and he said, "Do you mean someone else is sitting in your seat?" We said, "No, the seat is GONE. It's not there!" The stadium's been falling apart for years and it's literally (you think I'm kidding) being held together with duct tape. And yet it was great fun to be there as baseball history was made as the NATS played - AND WON - the last game at RFK on Sunday. We joined up with the Tirens, the Kless', and the Prices.
We even got to meet Dronkey!

This step in the upper deck where Ryan Zimmerman (or "Zupermann" as I call him) hit a homerun has been painted red.
One legend and one in the making: Frank Howard (right) and Ryan Zimmerman.

As I was taking this guy's picture, he was videotaping me and displaying it on the JumboTron! Of course I had a camera in front of my face - thank goodness.

Yes, I'm a people-watcher. Recognize these two?

Eli, being lovely and Chuck, well, being Chuck. :) Maybe it was the shock of being at his first NATS game.

The number of games left to play at RFK:
This is one serious NATS fan!

Dre and Becca were at the stadium for the second time in 12 hours. They'd gone with Christoph to the game the night before as well. That's commitment. Or insanity.

Dronkey with his Puppa.
Ted Lerner and Manny Acta after they dug up homeplate to take it to the new stadium.

See you again in April 2008 at the new ballpark!!

I'm glad you took a picture of "the stair". Seems to be a Mays' favorite spot.--and that you emailed us the picture of Dimitri since your blog is so full of Zimmerman. :-P

Can't wait for adventures at the new stadium!

We missed you guys too! Thanks for letting Janelle leave the game early to head to the Redskins with Kendall. Those crazy sports fans!
